Hey everyone,
Here’s a list of some things that I use about every week that makes my life easier
Organize your thoughts || In Notion, you can do just about anything you’d want to do with text and documents. It’s very similar to google docs, but it has features geared more toward personal use. It’s essentially a digital workspace where you can organize your thoughts much easier than in other applications. other It has a learning curve, but it’s well worth it if you write a lot or manage documents. A notion app is also available.

For Learning new things || I have the wikipedia app on my phone. The wikipedia app is much better than the web version because on the app you can save articles to reading lists. I like it more than reading nonfiction books because wikipedia has links, sources, read more, extremely concise reading styles, and updates as new research papers come out, weighs less than a book, and is always nearby me. None of those previous things can be said about a book. Also, if you want to read the research papers that are often cited by wikipedia, you can use the Academia app.

For cooking || Consider switching to Paprika if you still use recipe cards, cooking websites, are tired of doing math and making grocery lists by hand. This makes getting recipes, grocery shopping, and cooking easier. It’s actually quite a powerful app; a recent update allows you to import your recipes into paprika using your camera.

For math || Wolfram alpha solves equations, integrals, derivatives, and can do anything else math related. The only downside is that you have to pay to see the steps on how to solve something. (You can use Symbolab to get around this though). I use Wolfram Alpha when I’m stuck on a computationally difficult problem and I want to know if I got the setup right. You can also use GeoGebra 3D Calculator for 3D graphs.
For passwords || This is a simple password manager I use. It's 20$. Some of my friends use Bitwarden, which seems to be pretty good as well.
Email + Phone || If you don’t want to use your personal email to sign up for a site, this is a great option. Google Voice is basically the same thing, but you only get one extra phone number.
If you want more online privacy || Firefox gives slightly more privacy online than whichever browser you’re currently using. This is the browser I use. The tutorial is a bit much. I just have the Cookie AutoDelete, HTTPS Everywhere, NoScript extensions applied and browse in private.
If you type a lot, you should consider this. If you don’t, then ignore it. It puts the most commonly used letters on the home row. I use Gboard to type on Dvorak on my phone. It probably took me about 6 months to get back to my normal typing speed, and you will forget how to type on the Qwerty layout.
For medical students || Anki is different from most other flashcard apps because it uses spaced repetition. I think it’s by far the best flashcard app. For this reason, it’s used by medical students to effectively study for the MCAT. The “Create Deck”, “Add (basic / cloze)”, and “Browse” are all I’ve ever used. You can also import from google sheets. It is also useful for learning the vocabulary of new languages.
Cost of living estimation || This is useful for if you want to work in the US, then retire to another country and increase your purchasing power. It is also useful if you have the option to work remotely and want to live elsewhere and increase your purchasing power that way. Of course, with big decisions like these, it’d be a good idea to consider factors that may lead to the cost of living being higher or lower, and research the locations you’re considering.
